Today, we celebrate "the explorer Christopher Columbus, who first landed in the New World on October 12, 1492. While Columbus's nationality has never been positively identified, many believe he was of Italian descent, and throughought the nineteenth century, Italian-Americans held celebrations in cities across the United States to honor his memory. In 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed October 12 Columbus Day. President Richard Nixon later declared Columbus Day a national holiday to be observed the second Monday of each October."
So, we honor some guy we have no clue who he was or where he came from. Isn't that the entire plot of that tv show, Lost? Columbus should sue, really.
All it really meansto me is my trash got picked up but the mail is not running and the library is closed.
That's how I roll. (I wonder if Columbus had to explain himself to the Queen with that: Yes, madam, I realize you don't condone the 67 barrels of tequila I ordered for the voyage, but if you want me to go discover the new free world, that's how I roll."

Garbage pickup but no mail. What type of a union are we dealing with? I enjoy the contradictory nature of most of most our great nations holidays. Our family is looking forward to celebrating Kwanza with your family. The celebration of African Heritage of course. It begins the day after Christmas so we may have to postpone the initial celebration while we travel back from hanging out with Yallison in MI.
62 barrels of tequila could be used as an antiseptic too I think? At least that's why I have it....
Did you know that Christopher Columbus went by the alias "Ricardo" when posting to blogs in the 15th century? It's true!
Super Jay, If you dig deeper you will find out that Chistopher Columbis was actuall born in 1971 and America was discovered in 1977 while he was a young 6 year old boy out on his fishing boat. It'a amazing how the US government has covered up this fact in order to make the US appear older to the rest of the world! The Holiday was set as the second Monday of October by Jimmy Carter because that was the Monday after the Eagles play the Cowboys every year, and he wanted all federal employees to be able to party heavily and still not miss any work.
